Where we work · Inner city

An apartment, and somebody to satisfy.

Melbourne and North Melbourne, where the first question is not which film but who has to approve it.

Do I need permission to put film on my own windows?

Often, yes, and it is better to find out before the quotation than after. A Victorian owners corporation is entitled to make rules requiring prior written approval for alterations affecting the external appearance of a lot, windows included, and to restrict the finish of lot exteriors. Whether the glazing itself is yours or common property depends on your plan of subdivision.

What is different here

The glass, before the film.

The owners corporation decides what the building looks like

Rules can cover the design, appearance and finish of lot exteriors, and can require written approval before an alteration to a window. Film changes what the glass looks like from the street, so it is squarely the kind of change those rules are written for.

Uniformity usually narrows the choice

Where a building has already settled on an appearance, the film that suits your room may not be the film the building permits. That is a question to resolve before a quotation rather than after an installation, and it is the most common reason an apartment job stalls.

Sealed units are a compatibility question

Much of this stock is double glazed. Sealed units can often be filmed and the right film depends on the unit, which is not a question to answer from a website. It is answered by looking at the glass.

The glass may not be yours

In some plans of subdivision the window is lot property and in others it is common property. It changes who approves the work and who is responsible for the glass afterwards, so it is worth knowing which applies to your lot before anybody quotes.

What that changes about the job.

The quotation is the document you submit

It names the film being specified and the glass it is going on. That is what an owners corporation or a building manager needs in order to say yes, and handing over a figure with no specification attached is how an application comes back unanswered.

We confirm the glazing before specifying

Sealed, laminated and coated glass each change what can go on the pane. The check happens before the quotation, so the approval you seek is for the film that will actually be installed.

We will wait for the approval

No work is booked on the assumption that permission will arrive. If the building says no, there is nothing to unwind.

  • Film is applied to the inside face of the glass you already have.
  • We confirm what is appropriate for your glass before we quote it.
  • The film being specified is set out in your written quotation.

Tell us about the glass.

Describe the property and the rooms that are hard to use. We confirm what suits the glass before anything is quoted, and the quotation says which film and why.
