Newer glass behind older houses.
Essendon and Moonee Ponds, where the room that is hardest to use is usually the one added last.
Which windows actually need treating?
Rarely all of them, and rarely the ones at the front. The pattern across this housing stock is a brick house of some age with a larger, glassier room added behind it, and that room is the one nobody can sit in through a summer afternoon. Treating the glass that causes the problem is a smaller job than treating the house.
The glass, before the film.
The addition is the problem
A rear extension buys light and a view of the garden, and it buys the afternoon sun with them. Sliding doors and a wall of glazing facing west or north-west are where the heat comes in, and they are frequently the only glass in the house that needs anything done to it.
Two kinds of glass in one house
The original windows and the new ones are rarely the same glass, and they do not always take the same film. A house like this is one job with two specifications more often than it is one specification applied twice.
Heritage precincts here too
Both suburbs carry heritage overlay areas under their planning scheme. Where the glass being treated is at the front of a house in one of them, the considerations are the same as across the inner east.
What that changes about the job.
We quote the glass, not the house
The measurement covers the panes that are causing the problem. If four openings solve it there is no reason to price fourteen, and a quotation that prices fourteen anyway is a quotation worth reading twice.
The specification is per pane where it needs to be
Where original and newer glazing both need treating, the quotation says which film goes on which, rather than averaging the two into one line.
- Film is applied to the inside face of the glass you already have.
- We confirm what is appropriate for your glass before we quote it.
- The film being specified is set out in your written quotation.
